Minding the gap between the pastoral and academic aspects of any school is a common priority for many school leaders.
Raising the profile of pastoral leadership is an essential step in closing this gap.
Despite this challenge, the quality of pastoral leadership is acknowledged as pivotal; we all accept that schools now have a significant role to play in the social, personal, emotional and economic development of young people. Wellbeing and mental health are certainly high on the agenda of many governments’ education policies – we no longer need to debate the importance of this subject.
And yet… addressing this gap remains a challenge for many schools.
