Course Overview

Introduction – Video Script

Welcome to Governing for Impact – a 3 module programme to
support your role in school governance.

My name is Julie Bowdidge and together with my colleague
Helen Butler we have developed this programme to support new governors but also
to enable experience governors to reflect on your role and to develop the
effectiveness of your Board.

Both of us are experienced Chairs of Governors and also are
trustees, members and directors of trusts, co-operative trusts and multi
academy trusts.  We have supported and
trained governing bodies for a number of years and set up many school
partnerships.

The governance of schools is a demanding but rewarding
role.  We have known governors where they
have contributed greatly to the success of the organisation and provided much
support to school leaders.  Equally, we
have also seen cases where the wrong type of governance has brought many
problems to the school.  We are
therefore, passionate about supporting you in developing your skills, knowledge
and behaviour to be effective in this role.

We recognise there are many different type of governance
arrangements and for the purposes of this training we refer to governors but
this could relate to Directors, Trustees, Members and other roles established
to support the school.

We hope you enjoy reflecting on, reviewing and developing
your role through this course.
